Creative Thursday’s-Pumpkin Roll

Creative Thursday’s-Pumpkin Roll

I can’t believe October Creative Thursday is already here! EmilyTara and I enjoy hosting this challenge and this month’s challenge is a Fall Themed Dessert. I knew exactly what I wanted to bake! I will admit that I was quite intimated to make this cake but I think it turned out pretty good!

Homemade Apple Pie

Homemade Apple Pie

Today is our blog hop for our monthly Clearance Challenge. The rules are it has to be more than 50% from a store of our choice & show how we can use the piece in our home. As I was browsing Home Goods for fall pillows a couple weeks ago, I like to start off in the clearance section because I am constantly looking for Rae Dunn pieces; when low and behold, I found a Rae Dunn pie dish!! I turned it over to see the cost and it was only $14.99! Score! It was 65% off!

6F12F5ED-CC53-487C-8A25-5CFB91095378

One of my favorite fall traditions to do with my daughters is to make homemade apple pie. This is something I started with my oldest when she was really small and as soon as the weather turns chilly, we look forward to pie making day!

98EA3AF2-2991-41F6-BF55-69FA9A9D1132

When I make apple pie, I like to use a couple different variety of apples. This year we used Gala & Granny Smith.

My oldest daughter and number 3 daughter peeled, sliced & cored the apples. They also mixed all of the filling as well! We have a handy apple peeler from The Pampered Chef that makes it super simple to get all your apples ready in basically one swipe!

5C46CBBE-E4AF-4DE5-B605-15D484B59EEB

My number 2 daughter and number 4 daughter helped me with mixing the pie crusts & rolling them out!

198BF208-8514-4F79-BC46-7E6A0403F53D

We made a total of 4 pies plus homemade apple cider to sip on while me baked our pies!

CA703B9B-5446-4C4F-8BC5-EADEFB944C30

Now to choose how to decorate the top! Most of the time we do the lattice technique but the past couple of years we have been using a Pie Crust Cutter Set from Williams Sonoma.

Apple Pie

7 medium apples (Granny Smith and Gala), peeled, cored & sliced, zest of one lemon, 2 tsp of cinnamon, 1/8 tsp ground cloves, 1/2 c sugar & 1/2 c brown sugar. In large bowl, toss apples with all ingredients and set aside.

Crust

I use William Sonoma’s Basic Pie Crust recipe. The only thing I do different is add 2 more tbsp. of sugar.

Add your crust to your pie pan and poke holes in the crust with a fork. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 min. Take out and add your pie filling along with how you chose to decorate your top of your pie.

9F7C67DE-B403-4B1E-8C3E-24B8E6B53EB6

I will bake an additional 10-15 min but as soon as the top begins to brown, I add a tent shaped piece of foil to the top of the pie so it doesn’t brown to quickly. Now, try to be patient as you smell this delicious aroma of apple pie, fill your home! It is so good y’all! Do you have any baking traditions in your family?

It’s All About The Fall Vibes-Fall Home Tour 2019

It’s All About The Fall Vibes-Fall Home Tour 2019

Hey y’all! Come on in! Yes, it’s still in the upper 90’s here but that hasn’t stopped this gal from decorating my home for fall! After you’ve seen my fall home tour, you’re in for a treat because I am linking up with a few other bloggers this week that are also inviting you into their homes to see their fall décor!

C0A02E9F-AE4B-48BB-A9E6-367354239077

Welcome to our home! Pull up a chair and I’ll fix you a cup of warm apple cider, but we will leave the air conditioning on. This year, I based all of my color scheme on my pumpkin patch sign! I wanted warm fall tones! My Pumpkin Patch Sign was made by my husband and I, last year and it also doubles as a Christmas sign on the back side. The frames behind the Pumpkin Patch sign are some frames I have had from over the years and I just chalk painted them! I added green eucalyptus and warm fall tones of birch sprays, both from Hobby Lobby. They were purchased when 50% off! The two chairs were purchased from Amazon, a couple years ago. I think they were $50 each. The pillows are from my sectional. The blanket was purchased from TJ Maxx, this year for $15. The pumpkins are a mix of real and faux from Trader Joe’s and Hobby Lobby. The planters I have had for 15 plus years. I spray painted them back in the spring to refresh them! I bought the mums for under $5 at Wal-Mart.

CDEB6E39-DF71-46B3-BE5B-910B89D60A16

Our farmhouse style tv cabinet was designed & built by my husband and I. The wheat grass wreath above was made by me. I purchased the grapevine wreath at a local thrift store for a couple dollars. I bought all the wheat grass from Hobby Lobby and Micheal’s, all for 50% off. If you happen to live near wheat grass fields, you could ask the farmer for any scraps and you could basically make yours for free! My wreath is quite large and cost around $60 to make. Still much cheaper than you can buy in the store for the size that I needed! Warm fall toned birch sprays are from Hobby Lobby for under $10 for 4 sets.

94861B52-5502-4DFC-8B13-87A031612258

I am loving the warm fall vibes this year! Can you tell? For my tablescape, I chose to use my dough bowl that my husband made from a salvaged log that he found on the side of the road! Again, I used warm fall toned birch leaves & pumpkins from Hobby Lobby. I also added a couple acorn sprays that I cut and made into several sprays from just one! They were $1.49 from Hobby Lobby this year. I also used my Leaf Plates from Pottery Barn, White Linen Salad Plates from the Pioneer Woman Collection & the crystal glasses were from my Mother. You can read all about my fall tablescape and links on where to purchase here.

6A395A06-AF26-49FD-B5B8-5243412B9295

Our farmhouse dining room table & light fixture was designed and built by my husband and I. I also made the drop cloth curtains. Super cheap to make at $16 for both curtain panels. My rug is from my fav rug company, Well Woven Rugs.

D35BA738-F476-4C17-8471-D585FE906F66

In our recently renovated kitchen (under $500), blog coming soon, I made a fall floral arrangement. I bought the crock from an estate sale for $5 and used the fall birch sprays and other greenery, plus pumpkins, that I already had on hand. All from Hobby Lobby. You can read all about how I styled the fall floral arrangement here .

446BC054-56F5-42BA-BAF2-9C2D8135462C

I decided it would be fun to style my youngest two daughters kitchen set for fall as well! What a fun morning we had with an impromptu tea party at 7:45 am! I used all the same goodies from Hobby Lobby! Drop Cloth curtains were made by me for three sets, it was around $9.00!

7FBA0413-0572-4E22-8243-3A37E7F1265F

I also decorated my white chalk painted piano with those fall birch leaves and pumpkins! I really do love the color vibe they give off in my home!!

0CBA296F-5762-4870-8A6C-472A63EFABD1

I even added a few pumpkins in our master bedroom along with those acorn sprays & amber jar bottles. The amber jar bottles were purchased from Whole Foods for a few dollars. I also added a funny letter board. Lamp is from Hobby Lobby at 50% and it was $43.

49E0119A-3FB3-4FBB-8F6D-4C05B560296C

I even added a few touches of fall to our half bath. Of course I added the warm fall toned birch sprays, along with a few fabric pumpkins that I made! You can see how I made my fabric pumpkins, all for under $10 here. The green market sign was purchased from Target’s Dollar section at half off for just fifty cents! The amber bottles & antique books were purchased from an estate sale and my fav local antique shop for a few dollars. The mirror and shelves were also designed and built by my husband and I. We also recently renovated our half bath and all for just under $200. You can read that post here .

4C5B590F-0B85-4C9A-A1F3-DC9F44582D86

I added the same pumpkins, birch sprays & acorn sprays to my smaller dough bowl. The fresh soap bathroom sign was designed and built by my husband and I.

17FD61BB-3FA7-407B-A02A-B86D2851A0A8

Lastly is my outdoor tablescape. We love eating outside when the weather is cooler! We are finally expecting cooler temps here next week! It is so nice to sit outside and enjoy a meal with our family!

It’s All About The Fall Vibes: Fall Home Tour 2019

Thanksgiving Tablescape

Thanksgiving Tablescape

Today I am joined by several of my friends, that happen to be bloggers as well, to share our Thanksgiving Tablescape’s with y’all! I would also like to thank our host Terrie, from Decorate & More with Tip. Rules: To decorate our table for Thanksgiving and one item needed to be a DIY! As I always say, challenge accepted!

I have had this idea in my head to make my own charges from a tree log, except I had to find a log that would be large enough for chargers. This moment unexpectedly presented itself when we had a storm pass through in our neighborhood, back in August. We have a 75 plus year old willow oak tree in our front yard. The wind had whipped up quite intensely and I actually thought the tree was falling on top of our house, but two of the larger limbs broke off from the tree and fell to the ground.

5AFDAF7F-23AA-4391-8996-D9D58A07F1DC

After the storm was over, one of my first thoughts was that we could make several chargers from one of the limbs.

C9FCA79B-2B1B-4A14-AA84-800DF33E1317

The very next day, the first item on my husband’s agenda, without us even talking about it, was cutting eight chargers for our dining room table! My husband used his chainsaw to cut the chargers right off the fallen limb and voila, we had chargers!

0040CCF1-DAA1-4686-8A8A-37BAFDC40E3E

This is from the top of our front porch. The limbs completely knocked down the power lines in the road as well. We also had a small amount of damage.

5008DCCD-0763-4EE0-8694-6A29CCAB073D

I have been letting the wood dry out in my basement before sealing. Wood usually needs to dry out for 3-4 months. I am planning to seal each charger with a clear coat to protect the wood for years to come!

DCA61F3D-3528-4E2E-BA78-C19F54753D58

For the items on my Thanksgiving Tablescape, I began each place setting with the chargers that we made, along with a Pioneer Woman White Linen Salad Plate and a Pottery Barn Leaf Harvest Salad Plate. Pottery Barn is not carrying the Leaf Plates any longer, but I did find them here . I was able to find my Pottery Barn plates at a church rummage sale for $1.50 each and they were brand new! The crystal glasses were handed down to me from my Mother. I also used real cinderella pumpkins and faux pumpkins from Hobby Lobby and Trader Joe’s . The orange, yellow & green sprays are also from Hobby Lobby. I purchased four that I cut up and have used throughout my home for this year’s fall décor. I love the muted tones in the birch sprays! I also grabbed several brown acorn & berry picks from Hobby Lobby. I have used those all over my home as well in my fall décor. The brass candlesticks are from my fav local antique shop and local thrift store! I paid $2-$6 for each one. Farmhouse table, light fixture, wood cutting boards, curtains and Pumpkin Patch sign are all made by my husband and I.

1FB1307D-0FA8-4DED-B5E4-ECB92DC5563D

I hope y’all have enjoyed this easy diy and budget friendly Thanksgiving Tablescape! It does not need to cost an arm and a leg to decorate your home beautifully! Please stop by and visit each of my friend’s to see their Thanksgiving Tablescape!

Exploring Egmont Key in Florida: Wildlife and History

Exploring Egmont Key in Florida: Wildlife and History

In June of this year, we had the pleasure of visiting Egmont Key, located at the mouth of Tampa Bay, Florida. It lies southwest of Fort De Soto and can only be reached by boat or ferry. The Egmont Key Lighthouse and the ruins of Fort Dade, a Spanish-American War era fort, are also located on Egmont Key. Egmont Key extends along the Tampa Port Shipping Channel. The nearest city is St. Petersburg, Florida. We took the Tampa Bay Ferry from Fort De Soto to Egmont Key and on the way over to the island, I couldn’t help but notice the Caribbean-like blue green waters of Tampa Bay.

8E9F272B-B14A-43BB-A941-83188351526E

When we had almost arrived to the island, we had the pleasure of seeing three manatees!! This was the first time our family had ever been this up close to manatees before and I am almost at a loss of words by how amazing they were!

0BD6E4E7-B771-40FD-AA43-4F7A46E4F9B7

Two of the manatees were kissing and they were such gentle animals!

Arriving on Egmont Key!

17F96678-3909-4CA4-91A9-3914D14DAFF3

Once we arrived on the island, we walked along the pathways lined with palm trees and flowers. The flowers and palm trees were so beautiful!

989F2DDA-2A35-4F22-8C26-CB0FDA58A061

One of the first sight’s to see is the lighthouse!

7B0F3A41-2233-46A9-98C1-5B5A10C3DF64

We continued walking along the pathway to the beach and decided to go exploring for sea shells! We walked along the beach and found all different types of sea shells.

B6813C2F-6D67-4394-80B5-40BD2853C17F

After shell searching, we worked up an appetite for lunch! We ate our lunch on the beach and decided to explore the forts on the island from the Spanish-American War.

The picture below is Battery McIntosh, one of five gun batteries on Fort Dade.

Fort Dade was built on the island in 1898 during the Spanish-American War and remained active until 1923.

During this time, there was about 300 people living on the island with a small hospital, bakery, movie theater, bowling alley and tennis courts. While exploring the island, you will come across several of the remnants. The picture below is remnants of Fire Command Control Tower.

We stumbled upon several gopher tortoises!

We even got to feed one! Be careful though, they think brightly colored nail polish is food!

Our family enjoyed seeing the lighthouse that was built in 1858, while being maintained by the Coast Guard for ships and boats.

When we got back to the other side of the island, we headed straight to the water to cool off! It is very hot and humid, so please make sure to bring lots of water!

B4F88190-6A8A-4A62-BE38-0C89875BD97D

On the ferry ride back to Fort De Soto, we saw dolphins!

The dolphins were stealing all the fisherman’s bait fish off of their poles!

7AA9EF7F-9D35-4DD7-916D-2C033075A731

Definitely a unique island to visit and explore!

Tips from our family:

*Pack food and plenty of water

*Bring sunscreen

*There are no restrooms on the island, so be prepared.

*Wear clothing and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet/sandy.

Absolutely a wonderful experience that we will treasure for a lifetime and it could possibly be one of my most favorite places to visit in the world!

Fall Floral Arrangement

Fall Floral Arrangement

Today I am excited to share a new monthly challenge with y’all! Recently, Tara from Stilettos And Shiplap , Emily from LeCultivateur and I came up with a idea for a new monthly challenge which will consist of something a little different each month! This month we will be creating  a Fall Floral Arrangement and the rules were simple. Use a container we already owned, fall florals were a must and keep it budget friendly under $15. Ok, challenge accepted. Now, I must admit that it is definitely a challenge for me. I am definitely floral arrangement challenged, but I am always up for a challenge for my creative mind. Think outside the box. Mind you, my car is in the shop, so I will need to use everything I already have on hand or natural elements from outside. Shouldn’t  be to hard, right? If you are a blogger and would like to join us, please email one of the hosts!

I wanted to start with a vintage crock that I found at an estate sale for $5, last fall. That would be my container.

48B1DCB1-64C1-4BC6-8DF4-C51EBDB5E35A

I originally thought I would use some clippings from my butterfly bush outside, along with some flowers from Trader Joe’s, that I already had on hand. My husband buys me flowers from Trader Joe’s, a couple times a month, so we always have fresh arrangements on hand.

9A08C870-0CA4-413D-AA4B-010634FC7E96

I went outside to cut a few stems off the beautiful butterfly bush! It has grown so much this year alone! There were so many butterflies as well! If you look closely, you can spot a few of the orange and black Monarch butterflies.

5612FD67-FD97-405A-8546-F53501B413C7

I just love the flowers from the butterfly bush! So beautiful and vibrant! Now to start filling the crock!

68067E14-03B7-45CC-9A7E-5BF49040D973

I rearranged the floral arrangement, three times before I decided it was not going to work. Scratch that idea.

1F7736F0-678C-420C-9A59-E5F5FC2CA2FA

I decided to bring out all of my fall colored eucalyptus, pumpkins, candlesticks, acorn sprigs and a few pieces of greenery. I began to arrange them in the crock. Finally it felt like it was coming together. Styled our candlesticks that my husband and i made from a vintage bed post, along with my pumpkins from Hobby Lobby. I love adding the wood farmhouse beads too! I am definitely no professional but I did enjoy challenging myself with this fall floral arrangement! Best thing is that I made it for free because I already had everything on hand for this fall arrangement. Had I went out and purchased the fall florals, I would have only spent $10!

08CD5545-6677-482F-9626-884B472DE2FF

Have you made a fall floral arrangement? I would love for you to check out my friends to see their stunning fall floral arrangements!

Vintage DIY Chenille Pillows

Vintage DIY Chenille Pillows

Hey y’all! It’s time for our monthly Thrift Store Challenge and I’ve teamed up with several of my blogging friends today! 💃🏽 The rules: We each need to find an item from a thrift store, yard sale, estate sale, antique store…you get the idea! We need to take the item and basically make it our own, plus style the item in our home! Challenge accepted!!

I decided to go straight back to that white vintage chenille blanket that I found at a church rummage sale for $2.50. Remember the blog post I did on the handmade chenille pumpkins? Just in case you did not see it, click  here to see the post.

779D07B2-075F-4981-B123-671E00562A02

I have been wanting to make a few vintage chenille pillows for our master bedroom and this challenge was perfect for that! Since I already had this blanket and the poly-fil, this practically cost me zero dollars for this challenge!!

I love how there is a few spots on the chenille blanket that has been mended over the years. I can tell the blanket was hand-sewn and I can’t help but wonder how that tear must have gotten there…but I love the character it gives!

6F337F23-85E4-4F55-B0CD-73F945D527E2.jpeg

First thing was deciding what size I wanted the pillows to be! To be honest, I just held the fabric up to my pillow shams and decided I wanted them about half of the size (give or take) of the shams. After deciding on the size, I cut my first pillow template from the vintage chenille blanket. I cut two pieces per pillow.

90E6157F-3214-46F1-9FBF-D6F755125984

I chose to leave the fringe on one pillow, to dress it up a bit more!

6DCE3571-B7B2-478B-B92A-ED342E4A43D0

Place right sides of fabric together, pin or not pin, if you prefer. The one below is the fringe pillow, so if you chose to use fringe, make sure to tuck it inside!

71417C79-7FE3-4E05-B45A-33FDA0E90860

Sew all sides, leaving enough room on one edge open, so you can flip your pillow inside out, then stuff with poly-fil!

30551EE0-108D-45A1-A180-2D6ECF07ED52

Wallah! You have an easy vintage chenille pillow! I made a total of 3 and I love the one with the fringe best of all!

I hope you will hop on over and visit my friends to see what they have found on their search for our Monthly Thrift Store Challenge!
