Updating Door Knobs and Door Hardware with Kwikset & National Hardware

Updating Door Knobs and Door Hardware with Kwikset & National Hardware

[This post contains sponsored links. The items featured and linked, in this post is provided by Kwikset and National Hardware; all opinions and reviews are my own.]

57A2689F-E25D-4306-98B4-61B000C2CCD3

We have been working on many projects during quarantine! A couple easy and affordable ways to update your home is with door knobs, deadbolts and hinges! They may not be the first thing your eyes jump to when walking in a home but it can instantly breath new life into a home, while making it feel unified and cohesive. Take new door knobs, hinges and new paint on your doors /trim and you’ve got a winner winner chicken dinner!

Door Knobs Before

Our door knobs were the brass door knobs from the 90’s with a mixture of updated lever satin nickel door knobs.

D1FE2281-8EE3-48A4-B3C3-E99D88E7CB4B

Now…I thought I would do a “smart” thing, several months back and spray paint my door knobs/hinges, well let me tell ya, that did not work! Complete fail!

Kwikset

When we began the process of looking for door knobs, I researched all the companies that carried door knobs, dead bolts and all the things! What I found was a company that has been around since 1946. Kwikset is a company that is committed to delivering unmatched security features to homeowners and puts their customers’ safety above all else. Kwikset continuously improves the security features in its products to meet or exceed industry standards. Plus, with Microban and the lifetime mechanical and finish warranty, it’s a win win in my book!

Selecting Hardware Finish

When I began looking for what style of door knob we wanted, we knew we wanted to go with satin nickel hardware  throughout our home. We also wanted a style of door knob that we felt would be classic and timeless!

Electronic Deadbolt

For our front door, we decided to try a electronic deadbolt.

57A2689F-E25D-4306-98B4-61B000C2CCD3

We chose the Satin Nickel 888 Smartcode Electronic Deadbolt with Z-Wave Technology for our front door and absolutely love it!!!

E80D946A-D2FB-484E-BE0C-F081E549C233

  • Extended wireless range and superior 128-bit wireless encryption
  • Up to 30 user access codes for family and guests to use at the door
  • Secured keyless entry convenience
  • One touch locking

  • 30 user codes plus master code feature for added security
  • 5 digit keypad with dedicated lock button
  • SmartKey® technology – the lock you can re-key yourself in seconds in three easy steps
  • 30 user codes plus master code feature for added security

Exterior Doors

For our other exterior doors we chose Cameron Security Set in Satin Nickel. One of the best features about these sets is the Smart Key feature, which allows you to re-key your lock with any KW1 Keyway Key!!

Modern Farmhouse Master Bathroom Renovation

Modern Farmhouse Master Bathroom Renovation

[This post contains sponsored links. The items featured and linked in this post were all provided by Pfister, Kwikset , National Hardware and Jill & June; all opinions and reviews are my own.]

1AE8A3C4-AD18-43CC-87B1-E226DAF4D54B

The day is finally here! Your going to be shocked at the transformation of this modern farmhouse bathroom reveal! This renovation has all of the modern farmhouse elements- classic white subway tile, glass accessories with modern satin nickel hardware, warm wood tones, tile flooring and vintage shiplap ceiling. Come see how we transformed this room!

{Full sources available at the bottom of the page for your convenience.}

I still remember the first time we walked into this house. We knew the house had “good bones” and the layout, front porch and land is what drew us here. We knew from our Realtor that most people were passing on this house because the master bathroom was not updated. My husband and I have been diy’ers for twenty plus years so we knew we could transform this home into the home of our dreams. All we needed was a little faith, a lot of patience and some hard work!

First things first. You can’t have a reveal without a few before pics, right?!

Renovation Process:

First things first! Demolition of the old shower insert and tub.

After everything was torn out, some of the walls needed to be re-framed to accommodate the size of the new shower, along with a frame for the shower seat.

Next was installing the shower pan liner, along with the mud bed.

Shower Tile:

I have always wanted to learn how to tile, so my husband taught me how during our renovation! I tiled the first two walls, all by myself, with my husband making the cut pieces.

42D8C746-CDA2-45A7-A5DB-907E1410B028

I really enjoyed tiling our shower and having my hand in the work of our bathroom! When I got tired, my husband would help apply the thinset!

Removing Old Flooring:
There was two layers of flooring. The first layer was put on by the previous homeowner. It was the pre-cut square linoleum tiles with a layer of sticky glue underneath. The bottom layer was the original linoleum to the house. It was a sticky mess!

Painting the Cabinets:

We decided to keep the vanity to save costs. I decided to paint the inside and outside of my cabinets with my diy chalk paint. You can find that recipe here . I used Sherwin Williams in Snowbound.

Floor Tile:

First on the agenda was adding the backer board then adding the thin set with tile.

Removing Popcorn Ceilings:

This was the last room to remove popcorn ceilings in our house 🙌🏼 We removed the popcorn then patched and painted!

B6B2814B-DBA7-4157-AF81-C7B94DA017C8

Shower Ceiling:

We chose to do a shiplap ceiling with vintage board & batten to the ceiling! We also added two recessed lights and a fan. This picture is beginning to add the wood.

9EF34437-6DBE-4B06-905B-D2F7E34FDECE

The boards had what we originally thought was several layers of dirt. What we were surprised to find was several layers of dirt with a layer of mold underneath. It took several applications to treat the mold and remove it completely!

Wood Countertop:

We had a huge red oak tree fall on property a little over a year ago. My husband had an idea to mill the wood! We have already made several shelves & wood cutting boards from this wood! I had the idea to use the wood for a wood countertop in our bathroom. It would basically be at no cost, just our time.

Final Thoughts:

We are enjoying our newly renovated bathroom so much! It is so nice to have a master retreat! This is a wonderful gift to be able to give to each other. We have never taken a trip alone together or had a honeymoon! It’s about time, since we are celebrating our 22nd wedding anniversary this month! Also, this bathroom would not have been completed yet if it wasn’t for the help of our two oldest (adult) daughters! They truly helped make our dream bathroom come true!! Team work really does make the dream work!

DIY Grapevine Magnolia Wreath

DIY Grapevine Magnolia Wreath

DIY Grapevine Wreath:

It’s always a pleasure to team up with my friend Terrie from  Decorating and More with Tip for one of our decor challenges! This week we are challenging ourselves along with several other bloggers to make our own version of a grapevine wreath!

Gather Your Supplies-

I started off with a plain grapevine wreath that I found from a local thrift store, back a few months ago. You can also order online from any craft store. Micheal’s has this one for $4.99!

170807FD-EA79-4BFD-88D8-5D4574F3B6F6

Next, I purchased these magnolia leaf bushes from Hobby Lobby for $8.99 when they were half off. Just wait for the sale!

929DEBD6-DB67-4FF3-965B-E7887F420097

I also decided to paint a few of my leaves to take away some of that brighter green in the wreath and just tone down the overall look of the leaves. I purchased three paints colors from Wal-Mart in the Apple Barrel brand acrylic craft paint, in the colors, Melted Chocolate, English Ivy Green and Kings Gold. These colors are just fifty cents each.

547EAA18-9F21-4817-B412-833E48121B6F

Creating Your Wreath-

To create my wreath, I began taking apart the magnolia leaves and hot gluing them to the grapevine wreath, angling the leaves in different directions, to give dimension to the wreath.

3EB81776-AF49-4200-A4D6-9AC3406D92FA

After I had all of my leaves placed into my wreath, I went around the entire wreath and painted a few leaves of the Melted Chocolate  ,  English Ivy Green  and Kings Gold .

ADD5BB7D-993E-42B2-8290-4FB91549AD57

This is the wreath with just the Melted Chocolate brown leaves painted.

This is the wreath with the Melted Chocolate brown and the English Ivy green painted on the leaves.

ECB0D687-ED11-449D-9716-8E7E4006E4F7

For the lighter green, I mixed Kings Gold and English Ivy Green, both with equal parts.

CE5DA9E7-38D2-46F5-AC96-1D8C2AEF2E6F

After painting the leaves, here is the finished product!

ECB0D687-ED11-449D-9716-8E7E4006E4F7

Now to style in my home!

D10E9349-AA72-4B08-8E2E-8297F084FE12

I decided to style on my antique door in my dining room! I love how my wreath turned out!! It’s perfect for my space!

DIY Dollar Tree Christmas Challenge

DIY Dollar Tree Christmas Challenge

I always enjoy a good decor challenge on a budget, so when my friend Terrie, from Decorate and more with Tip  invited me to her DIY Dollar Tree Challenge, I knew I would love it!!

DIY Dollar Tree Challenge:

Rules: Purchase an 18 inch tree from The Dollar Tree and decorate it as budget friendly as possible!! Challenger accepted ✅

96ACC62C-58D0-4E3B-9843-20DD698F67DBI started off with this white Christmas tree  from The Dollar Tree. I decided to use some of my leftover painter’s drop cloth canvas to make a bow topper and ribbon for the tree. All you do is cut a small cut at the top of the canvas then make a second cut, depending on your width you want of your “ribbon”.  I decided my bow ribbon and ribbon cascading down the tree would be 2 inches in width and around 20 inches long. I like my ribbon to sort of bunch into the branches. A drop cloth is only $3 for a small one.

7DEA40CF-F925-47BC-B854-E9E05598B13E
Next I decided to use my wood star garland from one of my fav shops, 302 Wood Works  .

A7EEF860-DB4A-4CC6-8F6E-7CE658ABF9BALastly, I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased these little pink mini ornaments for $1.99 at 50% off!

EE4AAABB-5EC3-4EE4-98FF-B80EB03EE673

Along  with these mini ornament hooks  for .99 cents at 50% off. For the tree skirt, I used a piece of canvas drop cloth! I only spent $3 and some change on the supplies for decorating the tree. My total cost for decorating my tree was $4.32!!

B25C1A81-A452-41FF-97D2-9E11BA08BB2D

I wanted to style the tree in our girls bathroom upstairs, which is decorated in a boho theme. I wanted the tree to reflect that, with a pop of pale pink for color and a fun flair! What do y’all think?
