We all know that eating organic food and avoiding pesticides is great for our bodies! We also know that avoiding harmful chemicals that are in products, that we put on our skin like makeup, shampoo’s, deodorants, ect, but have we thought about the difference in organic and conventional bedding?

E1C63F3D-A18C-45B6-A46A-BE1B96B138A2

Why choose organic bedding? The same reasons we choose organic produce, skin care products and cleaning products. Organic bedding is a healthier option without all the harmful chemicals. Organic cotton isn’t treated with the toxic chemical pesticides that conventional bedding is exposed to.

726F6C18-0203-4640-B5B3-D573830B0925For example, the wrinkle resistant sheets are treated with chemicals that release formaldehyde. Long term exposure is not good for our health. Conventional sheets are also dyed with inks and dyes that may contain heavy metals. Organic cotton is also more comfortable and breathable than compared to its synthetic counterpart. Organic bedding will leave you feeling cool and comfortable!

41CDDB0A-2431-4948-80A7-963417AD1C0B

Let’s sum it up in six reasons to buy organic cotton sheets:

1) Organic cotton isn’t processed with harsh chemicals, making it great for people with sensitive skin!

2) Organic cotton isn’t grown with harmful pesticides!

3) Organic cotton is a breathable fabric!

4) Organic bedding isn’t made with harmful chemical additives like “wrinkle resistant” treatments that release formaldehyde.

5) Organic cotton bedding is made without harmful dyes and inks that may contain heavy metals.

6) Organic cotton bedding is usually stronger, making it hold up to wear and tear better than conventional bedding because chemical processing weakens the fibers.

How to Style a Small Outdoor Seating Area

How to Style a Small Outdoor Seating Area

Do you want to create that perfect oasis in your back yard, patio or deck? No matter how small, your yard or balcony can be turned into a relaxing backyard oasis for you and your family to enjoy! There are numerous decor elements that you can add to make an enjoyable space on these upcoming hot summer days!
4DC3BA33-E3EB-4BD9-BE58-EA89EE37969FI love “shopping my home” for items that I already have on hand, especially during the Covid-19 quarantine; like these planters that I we had stored under our deck. I have had these for 15 years, so I decided to add a coat of black spray paint, that I also had on hand, to spruce them up! Like new again! We recently visited our favorite nursery so I added a fern to each planter. I added the chairs for comfort and two pillows, which were a diy. You can find that blog here . You could even add a hammock!
84C9D6C0-A590-454A-866A-F6023039FDD8Add in a small table with a couple of plants and throw a blanket over a chair, for those chilly spring nights. My friends over at Abba Patio were so kind to send our family their 9 ft Market Umbrella with Auto Tilt and Crank. They also sent us their Plastic, Free-Standing Round Umbrella Base in Brown.

A997F504-CA3C-4589-A131-9FF6DEB4B952The Market Umbrella is amazing with its auto tilt and crank! We chose the color beige. The 9 ft umbrella is enough space for two lounge chairs or a 4-6 person round table. It is also has a rust free coating! The base is recycled plastic and a steel pole! It can also be filled with water to create a more stable base plus its weather resistant! These pieces will last in your backyard for years to come! Budget friendly pieces and the quality is wonderful!

I hope you have enjoyed styling your backyard oasis with me! The options are endless!

DIY Grapevine Magnolia Wreath

DIY Grapevine Magnolia Wreath

DIY Grapevine Wreath:

It’s always a pleasure to team up with my friend Terrie from  Decorating and More with Tip for one of our decor challenges! This week we are challenging ourselves along with several other bloggers to make our own version of a grapevine wreath!

Gather Your Supplies-

I started off with a plain grapevine wreath that I found from a local thrift store, back a few months ago. You can also order online from any craft store. Micheal’s has this one for $4.99!

170807FD-EA79-4BFD-88D8-5D4574F3B6F6

Next, I purchased these magnolia leaf bushes from Hobby Lobby for $8.99 when they were half off. Just wait for the sale!

929DEBD6-DB67-4FF3-965B-E7887F420097

I also decided to paint a few of my leaves to take away some of that brighter green in the wreath and just tone down the overall look of the leaves. I purchased three paints colors from Wal-Mart in the Apple Barrel brand acrylic craft paint, in the colors, Melted Chocolate, English Ivy Green and Kings Gold. These colors are just fifty cents each.

Creating Your Wreath-

To create my wreath, I began taking apart the magnolia leaves and hot gluing them to the grapevine wreath, angling the leaves in different directions, to give dimension to the wreath.

3EB81776-AF49-4200-A4D6-9AC3406D92FA

After I had all of my leaves placed into my wreath, I went around the entire wreath and painted a few leaves of the Melted Chocolate  ,  English Ivy Green  and Kings Gold .

ADD5BB7D-993E-42B2-8290-4FB91549AD57

This is the wreath with just the Melted Chocolate brown leaves painted.

This is the wreath with the Melted Chocolate brown and the English Ivy green painted on the leaves.

ECB0D687-ED11-449D-9716-8E7E4006E4F7

For the lighter green, I mixed Kings Gold and English Ivy Green, both with equal parts.

After painting the leaves, here is the finished product!

Now to style in my home!

D10E9349-AA72-4B08-8E2E-8297F084FE12

I decided to style on my antique door in my dining room! I love how my wreath turned out!! It’s perfect for my space!

      SIMPLE SPRING TABLE

Tablescapes are one of my favorite ways to be creative! With spring right around the corner, I wanted to create a tablescape that would be neutral, casual with a farmhouse touch.

389FF4A5-60F2-4C3A-B498-84AAA5DCDA74

I already had most everything on hand like the dishes, table runner, crystal glassware, chargers and greenery. I picked out this beautiful  White & Mango Wood Cake Stand  from Kirkland’s. I wanted to use it as my centerpiece for my Spring Table Brunch. With a cake stand, I feel that it is versatile from serving foods to adding a candle or a plant!

F301C3FC-8B27-4ED8-A618-782B5BDC775C

The next item I chose from Kirklands for my  tablescape was their beautiful Charcoal Plaid Napkins  . The napkins add a simple touch of charm and  complete Spring Table Brunch.

LET’S GET STARTED ON CREATING THE TABLESCAPE! HERE’S HOW:

I like to add my table runner first, then begin layering with my chargers, adding in a dinner plate and lastly, the smaller bunny plates. I also added the crystal glassware that was a gift from my mother. On top of the layered plates, I added the Charcoal Plaid Napkins from Kirklands.

0A0F90CD-9E11-4B45-BA4B-F0C42F816D79

Now it’s time to add some height to the tablescape. I began with the White & Mango Wood Cake  from Kirklands. I decided to add a faux fern in a planter for even more height. Next, I grabbed a couple of my vintage & mason jars, along with a couple smaller new mason jars. I added fresh baby’s breath flowers to those jars for an added element of height as well! One thing I love about creating a tablescape is using all the greenery! I love adding frosted eucalyptus while mixing in a few cut pieces of lambs ear.

1A6833F6-DDE2-419C-A70C-DE9BB00A49E9

These decorating ideas are sure to create a neutral and bright table for spring! I enjoyed sharing these tips with you, as well as the pieces I found at Kirklands to create this look. If you have any questions about creating this look, please let me know!

Antique Bottle Collection

Antique Bottle Collection

It’s that time again for our monthly Thrift Store Challenge where we are challenged to find something from a thrift shop, antique shop, estate sale, yard sale, rummage sale, Craigslist or FB Marketplace and make it our own by styling in our home. Hosted by Tara from https://stilettosandshiplap.com/  and Emily from https://lecultivateur.com/   .

A7842C88-97FD-41F6-BD34-7414D5EBDF56

Over the course of about a year, I have been collecting antique bottles of all variety! I found a couple of larger antique mason jars, antique milk bottles & antique ink or medicine bottles (I believe). I paid .10 cents each for the mason jars and the milk jars were .25 cents, at two separate estate sales. Then I found the small glass bottles at my local antique shop for $2 and $3 each. We also like to drink Boylan Bottling Co glass cane cola’s. I like to collect those bottles too!

1CDE241F-3C1B-4E84-BFFD-9881C7B74E08

I love styling antique glass jars and bottles in my home! The options are endless! This year for spring, I decided to incorporate my antique bottles and jars with lavender! Lavender is one of my favorite flowers to style in my home for the spring and summer months!

582BA670-3C1C-40DC-AE04-5181980C0FE0

I have a small buffet hutch that I style differently each season, in my dining room. I chose to use my flower market sign that my husband and I made, along with eucalyptus, a couple hanging white flowers, lavender and of course those antique jars! Simple, yet I love it! I’m am beginning to fill my home with touches of spring!

Valentine Hearts Ribbon Garland

Valentine Hearts Ribbon Garland

Today, I’ve been invited to team up with my friend Terrie from Decorate & More with Tip and several of our blogging buddies to bring our readers inspiration with “hearts”. I knew exactly what I wanted to do when Terrie invited me to this challenge!

Guess what I took out of my craft closet? My painters canvas drop cloth, of course!  I always have one on hand from previous projects from curtains to pillows! I decided to make a canvas drop cloth “ribbon” garland with hearts!

38E2D13B-140E-4D81-AE9A-BE165E0EE8C7

First things first..I made a heart template by hand drawing a heart on a piece of copy paper. Then I placed my heart template onto the canvas drop cloth canvas and traced the heart template with a pencil onto my canvas drop cloth.

A54CABEB-AA9C-4118-80B6-2B1B2EE6B7FE

I decided to make 7 hearts, so I needed 14 in total, with each heart being 4 inches in size. I planned to stuff my hearts with tissue paper to give them more of a fuller look and to help them stand out more on the garland.

1C4BA6D5-2F4F-4F08-9E0B-C7B8288E5FF8

Next, I sewed around the edges of two of the hearts, leaving a 1/4 inch from the edge. I also left enough of a section unsewed (open) so that I could stuff with tissue paper. After stuffing with just the right amount of tissue paper, I placed the heart back onto my sewing machine and sewed up the remaining edge.

3FBEA787-BD12-4B8C-BBCA-1598267AD3FD

After finishing all of my hearts, I moved on to the “ribbon”. I used some twine that I already had on hand. You can find it at Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby or any craft store.

4BFB135A-3D44-433F-9230-6724C1A01CBD

For the ribbon, I decided to do 21 inches in length and 2.5 inches in width. To make the ribbon, measure the size you want to use and cut a small slit at the top of your canvas for the starting length and rip down to the desired length. Measure and do the same for the width. The amount of ribbons that you will need will depend on the size of your ribbon and the length of your garland. My garland is 58 inches and I have around 40 ribbons.

445CC2A2-978C-4E55-A5C7-96C17C697D29

To tie your ribbon onto your jute twine- I am going to show you in a series of photos, how I tie my ribbon onto the twine. Hold your ribbon and loop it around a couple of your fingers. Now, flip your ribbon upside down, as you bring it up to your twine.

7837B1B2-B06A-4FD9-A6A8-66D534538B5D

Take the loop section of your ribbon and hold with one hand then pull the ends into the loop.

02DA63C3-61C5-45F6-8475-303653318B42

This is the ends pulled through the loop.

3A154729-5336-4889-8F40-523666202CB7

Then pull tightly to secure your ribbon’s knot.

B6FEA314-FA5E-4BEB-953D-DC43B5EA971F

Now, go and do this several more times until you’ve completed your garland! I did this 40 times!

3CBE2A80-D1EC-43BD-8958-ED1C5E8150F1

For the hearts, I just did one small tack of hot glue and sort-of evenly spaced them. By evenly spacing them, what I actually mean is what looked best via my eye!

BC23E8DB-D98B-41CE-B0AB-C77602D694CD

You could style your garland on your mantel, on a wall in you living room, the possibilities are endless when it comes to using this garland! You could even add colored ribbons in to go with the changing seasons!

C4CF7148-B6A2-4632-B56B-A9DFD831591E

I chose to style my garland on our little girls kitchen set! The girls and I had a fun afternoon of making handmade Valentine’s cards! We even had tea with their dolls too! I hope ya’ll enjoy our blog hop and hop on over to visit the other ladies to see what they’ve come up with for our “heart” challenge!

Inspiration for a Winter Home

Inspiration for a Winter Home

Today I was invited by my friend Terrie , for a January Challenge on giving our readers inspiration for warming up your home for winter. Challenge accepted! Styling my home for winter has definitely been a first for me, but I am enjoying how much warmer, my home feels!4C95C543-D3C9-41D4-94A7-B397BE404746.png

I started by adding several small flocked trees that I purchased from Target this year. I believe the smaller ones were only $3 and the larger ones were $5.  I love antique crocks and decided to add the flocked trees to my vintage crocks. Most of my crocks are from both of my grandmother’s homes. I also decided to keep out several different varieties of greenery, along with my candles. I added flocked greenery and lambs ear to my grapevine wreath that is hanging on my antique door. The door was  found on facebook marketplace for $5 and originally painted brown. I stripped all the paint with Citristrip and was left with an antique milk paint base. I originally had the door in our master bedroom in the corner, but with January here, I was ready to start rearranging!

E017BC8A-D7A7-4B3D-A761-6D3BB2CF74FA

For the mantel, I wanted to leave my mirror and a couple different types of garland, along with a couple flocked trees. The mirror was purchased for $1 at a rummage sale and you can see how I transformed it, Here . I made all of my pillows from canvas drop cloths. I plan to have a blog out on how to make them, this month. My vintage ski “wreath” is another afternoon diy! Fun and budget friendly! Our family pup wanted to get cozy for this picture!

22A7128D-5C1F-4251-A346-E81CFC0F0E52

Another view of our living room, if you just want to keep it simple, just add greenery, flocked trees and throw pillows. I often find myself craving simplicity this time of year as well.

Thrifty Mirror Makeover

Thrifty Mirror Makeover

Today on the blog, myself and a few other bloggers will be sharing our finds from thrift shops, estate sales, yard sales or rummage sales.

On beautiful fall Saturday, we were all out as a family, running errands and I couldn’t pass up the chance to go to a huge rummage sale! We arrived about 30 minutes prior to the sale being over and that is prime time for a good deal because every single item was one dollar! I saw someone walk out with a loveseat for $1! I stumbled upon a large 90’s vibe mirror and I knew it would fit in perfectly with my neutral Christmas décor that I had been planning for months!

Here is the before pic of the mirror.

9E70D424-E7B5-4A33-A61A-D9634D3E7D65 I knew that a couple coats of my homemade chalk paint  would freshen up this mirror!

3DA6E1DA-C8ED-43E8-9915-D6B09B928451

I painted two coats of paint with light sanding in between each coat. I also distressed very lightly after the 2nd coat, wiped with a dampened cloth and added clear wax!

I couldn’t be any happier with my $1 rummage sale find!!

Back Yard Adventures Cedar Play Set

Back Yard Adventures Cedar Play Set

Hey friends! I always like to have total transparency! This blog post includes an affiliate link and we collaborated with a local company, Backyard Adventures on a Adventure Outlook 1 Cedar Play Set. My opinions are always my own and I would never share anything with y’all that I don’t truly love. Thank you for your support friends!

Do your kids prefer to be watching tv or playing on a tablet? Give your kids a reason to play outside with a new cedar play set from  Backyard Adventures !!!

9DA64C40-0EE5-4909-B0DE-92F0394CAA1D.jpeg

If you give your kids a reason to be outside, chances are they will gradually change their minds! One of the best ways to do so is to build a quality play set in your backyard. Where quality is concerned, we wanted to go with a wooden play set, since they last longer than their metal or plastic counterpart.

We chose the  Adventure Outlook 1  for our family for several reasons. We loved that it was under $2k, plus it had all the amenities that we were looking for in a play set, like the fort structure, that has a 5 foot high deck with over 20 square foot of play space!

F8E480C1-2AE1-45A2-8A35-71D193621113.jpeg

There is also an option to add a wood roof, 3 position 8 foot swing beam, 2-belt swings, trapeze bar, 5 foot rock wall, picnic table and wave slide! We also added a steering wheel and a binoculars.

F206AB74-D71C-4E66-960B-D717F8B13636.jpeg

The options are endless, as you can custom design your own play set! All play sets include a 10-year warranty on all wood, metal and hardware components. The Treehouse/Peak series are a lifetime warranty. All slides and swings are a 5 year warranty.

Seriously, you can’t beat that! Jeff Beabout and his team are extremely diligent in the whole process from start to finish. They want to make sure you are getting the right play set for your family’s needs and they will even send out their team to assemble the play set! At one year, they call you to schedule maintenance of your play set and will tighten any bolts, replace any if needed, pressure wash, sand and stain the wood. Hands down, this has been one of the best companies we have ever worked with and are so blessed to be apart of the Backyard Adventures family!

We have had our play set for a few weeks now and not a day goes by that our youngest two daughters have not asked to play on it! That is even in the freezing cold and the rain! I think this makes the most perfect Christmas gift! Plus, the picnic table is the perfect spot for a “real” sweet tea party! Our Elf, “Snowflake” even came for tea too!

D2BBC92C-17EA-4B6A-BD36-152FE6EAE5FD.jpeg

Farmhouse Christmas: Let’s Decorate

Christmas is my favorite time of year to decorate! I have always enjoyed decorating for the holiday since my very first Christmas as a newly wed. We didn’t have much, but that didn’t stop me from making our house a home for the holidays! This is where all of my DIY inspiration began and on a dime!

The Importance of Inspiration:

With that being said, whether you have a big budget or a non existent budget, you can create something magical, if you just use your own creativity! After all, isn’t your own creativity part of the magic? That is one reason why I spend time, getting inspired before I purchase anything! Being inspired is like saving money in a sense! I hope this tour gives you inspiration and helps you to step outside your tried and true decorating!
I believe your home, what’s inside your home, your surroundings, should add joy to all of your decor! Let’s get this party started!

Farmhouse Christmas: Front Porch

As you step onto our coveted front porch, you will see a vintage vignette complete with a vintage sled. Our table is a vintage singer sewing machine base that we found on our local trading site. It was a diamond in the rough, as it was all rusted when we found it. We sanded and painted it with black latex paint and added a wood top. The wood top was made  from a tree that fell on our property, that my husband milled.

As you open the front door of our open, you will most likely be greeted by our golden retriever mix, named Tinker Belle, inviting you into our home, as long as you give her a good belly rub!

Farmhouse Christmas: Dining Room
You will see lots of cottage farmhouse with bits of rustic decor in our dining room. My husband and I designed and built our farmhouse table. When we began shopping for a new dining room table, everything we found was not made of real wood and that got me to thinking that we could design and build our own! We headed to a local wood store and picked out the most beautiful ambrosia maple! I was like a kid at Christmas time, waiting on my husband to build the table so I could figure out what stain, paint or epoxy I wanted to use. I was so excited to begin having meals around our table!

I also enjoy styling my dough bowl for each season. My husband also made the dough bowl from a salvaged log, that he found on the side of the road.

Farmhouse Christmas: Living Room

Let’s head into the heart of our home, our family room/living room. Our white stone painted fireplace with our newly, neutral painted walls gave me the idea for using natural elements on our neutral, flocked King of Christmas tree. Most of the ornaments were handmade by my husband and I. From the embroidery hoop wreaths to the wood Christmas blocks to the wooden spindle ornaments. We enjoying creating a space with items that we love and by creating it with our own hands, gives us such JOY!

We also designed and built the wood tree box stand. I thought it would be fitting, giving all of our neutral plus natural elements this year! When it came time for stockings, I knew I wanted something white or light and originally thought I wanted white sweater-y material. It was a no-go real quick, when I found that none of the stores had what I was envisioning in my mind. I remembered I had a left over painter’s drop cloth canvas from when I made my curtains, so why not make them out of that? I basically made 6 stocks for around $11! You can see that blog here  . I also added ship lap wood name tags to all of stockings as well. Those were super easy to make and free because I had all items on hand!

For my mantel, I added greenery from Hobby Lobby along with some Christmas picks that I bought a couple years ago on clearance from the Hearth and Hand collection for $1.47 each! I also added bits of lambs ear and red berries! I added the berries because one of our daughter’s requested color! Well color you will have my darling!

Farmhouse Christmas: Kitchen Deck the Halls
For our kitchen, I would use the same cabinet wreaths that I made last year, except I would flock them myself. I added a neutral “Merry Christmas” cotton garland that I found I Hobby Lobby for the ribbon. I added more red berries that you see throughout my home. I added my tiered tray to the corner of my bar area and added all the essentials necessary for making hot cocoa. My girls always love a hot cocoa bar!

This year, I decided to dress up the girls kitchen play set for Christmas as well! We had the best time, making it feel like a cozy spot for them to make memories, making gingerbread houses and tea parties, of course!  And what gingerbread making party wouldn’t be complete with our American Girls?! For this tree, I made “ribbon” with ripped pieces of painter’s canvas drop cloths. It seriously has come in handy this year! I also made a bow for the tree topper from the canvas drop cloth! The tree skirt? Canvas drop cloth! What rustic farmhouse tree wouldn’t be complete without our hand-strung, cranberry and popcorn garland!

Farmhouse Christmas: Outdoor Tablescape

My Christmas isn’t complete without my outdoor Christmas tablescape! My husband and I also designed and built this table as well! For our outdoor tablescape, I used my dough bowl with a few flocked trees, white Christmas houses and the crystal that was given to me by my mother. It is a farmhouse, rustic feel and I enjoy the simplicity!

Keep Everything in Perspective:

If you are anything like me, you really enjoy seeing all the creativity! When I am looking for inspiration in other people’s homes, whether it’s in a blog, magazine or in person, I get inspired to go home and create my own magic!! My hope is that you will take our inspiration but not feel pressured from it. We always do our best to re-use decor and you can always revamp by painting or by just giving it a mini makeover!

Prioritize Joy:

With my blogging and IG responsibilities, I decided to focus my efforts on what was most important to me. When I thought long and hard about it, I decided that every square inch of my home should be filled with Christmas because it gave me such JOY! Decide for you, what’s most important and do what gives you joy without feeling overwhelmed!

Farmhouse Christmas: Setting Limits

I know that there are times when I begin to feel like I need to set limits with myself. When I begin to feel overwhelmed, I let one or two or however many things I’m balancing on my plates, go. Gone. Load lightened. And guess what? I don’t feel guilty about it. That is how I set my own boundaries with myself. Boundaries I make with myself are a great way for me to set limits. Being proactive in managing potential stress is a great way to have more time, joy and energy during the holidays! Pick and choose your priorities because after all, isn’t this time of year for celebrating with the birth of our Savior, traditions with our loved ones.

From our family to yours, we wish you a joyful, blessed and peaceful holiday season!

Merry Christmas!

❤️-Shae
